Intergenerational communication in Cyprus

In Cyprus, intergenerational communication is increasingly fostered through structured initiatives and educational projects that bring young people and older adults together for mutual learning and community development. One example is the "InterGenic" project, led by the University of Limassol and Materia Group. https://intergenic.eu/

This project, funded by Erasmus+, supports exchanges between youth (ages 18-25) and older adults (ages 55+), focusing on sharing digital skills and ecological knowledge. Youth help seniors adapt to digital tools, while seniors share traditional practices that support sustainability. The project also promotes collaboration on community issues, such as environmental initiatives, which bridge digital and green transitions. Through interactive workshops and mentoring, both generations exchange knowledge and enhance community ties.

In addition, the European project "StartUp: An Intergenerational Approach" has been implemented in Cyprus, specifically aiming to bring these two age groups together to tackle rural challenges. By creating intergenerational teams, this project combines the entrepreneurial skills of younger participants with the wisdom of older adults. Together, they develop small, sustainable business models that address rural community needs, showing how cross-generational dialogue can result in innovative solutions while preserving local knowledge and traditions.

These programs demonstrate Cyprus's commitment to leveraging intergenerational dialogue to address societal and community issues, fostering a collaborative spirit across generations in the service of shared goals like sustainability, digital literacy, and economic resilience.

Vivid Dialogues

Vivid dialogues are the essential elements of success in both our personal lives and workplaces. On the one hand, it is a communication of knowledge, but on the other hand a message is delivered in a precise and actual way. Moreover, interpersonal skills, such as active listening, empathy, and the ability to understand others, are also discussed. Transparency and honesty are a couple of the ways to communicate people and they help them to build trust with each other, resolve disputes, and thus, live in peace. The participant's ability in the Erasmus Project is a good example of how they can convey ideas, promote cultural diversity, and achieve the common goals together.
